Grassdale

Mort & Co’s desire to improve and innovate remains central to the evolution of the company’s supply chain and the sustainability of future operations.

With a state-of-the-art feed mill servicing up to 80,000 head of cattle each day, and an industry leading cotton seed de-hulling program in operation, Mort & Co has identified an opportunity to value-add from this existing infrastructure and strengthen the company’s overall diversity and resilience. Located on site at Mort & Co’s Grassdale Feedlot, the cotton seed de-oiling project adds function to current de-hulling operations by utilising cotton seed meats, a product of the de-hulling process, to produce crude and stabilised cotton seed oil, and low fat, high protein cotton seed meal. These products will be utilised in existing feedlot operations, as well as sold externally to the marketplace as an independent commodity. Mort & Co’s cotton seed de-oiling program is one of only a small pool of de-oiling initiatives in Australia. It is the only facility to be attached to an operational feedlot and offers exciting advancements for the company’s integrated supply chain, making it an important step towards establishing an innovative stockfeeds manufacturing enterprise to service the wider livestock industry. This initiative not only forms the foundation for a new product range, but it also provides additional employment and value creation opportunities for the Darling Downs and wider Queensland regions.
